currating the perfect space to create your work is not only incredibly personal, it is crucial. i like to think of my studio as my sanctuary, i think you probably do too! here are some of my favorite things and gear that make my studio feel like home.

here's the list

  • my ipad
    • seems kinda obvious BUT i think so many traditional artists forget that technology is your friend. i use my ipad to map out and rearrange paintings i make to see if proportions are correct/make changes without destroying my painting!
  • my thrifted desk and chair set
    • i think thrifting and flipping furniture is such a smart way to make your studio feel more cozy, but most importantly, you WILL get paint all over your desk...might as well thrift one, hey it adds to the charm and character! if you're in Chicago, check out Mt.Sinai!
  • warm lighting
    • if you are lucky enough to have great natural light in your studio, congrats!! I am so jealous!! i have the worst lighting EVER in the studio, so I have tried just about everything to create warm space to create in...I just got the Philips Hue Play White & Color Smart Light  and i can't wait to see how to change my space!
  • a scanner
    • it does not have to be anything fancy, my pritner doubles as a scanner and it was $90. scanning your art and your sketchbooks is such a great way to not only preserve your work, but get incredible textures you can use digitally! I love the noisy look my scanned art has, it has been so cool to incoroprate hand drawn pieces into my digital world!
